I stopped by for a sweet treat and was surprised to see bare shelves a couple hours before closing. I ended up trying their flaky taro and it was good. It was $3.50 and kind of small, though, but they didn't have either of the other items i wanted.
The Taro Mochi is a chewy, gooey little miracle wrapped in a perfect balance of sweet potato bliss. It's like eating a cloud, if clouds were made of deliciousness. The Milk Butter Bolo is dangerously buttery and a good reason to forgive carbs forever...just don't tell my diet, or we'll be breaking up. The Nutella Cookie Bun tastes like someone stuffed Nutella into a warm, cuddly pillow, and it feels right in all the ways, like a hug from a bakery. Then there's the Dirty Bun Green Tea Croissant...it's not actually dirty, just extra crispy and packed with matcha goodness. It's like a croissant went to a yoga class and got zen. The Chocolate Buns after one bite, and you'll wonder why chocolate didn't always come in bun form. Finally, the Japanese Light Cheese Cake is so fluffy, it could double as a cloud. If clouds tasted like happiness, that is. Sunmerry, you've earned a permanent spot in my stomach. My waistline may disagree, but we're still figuring that out.
This bakery highly reminds me of 85 degree bakery with similarly items on their menu sold. The one I usually go to is smaller, but gives me a sense of home in a way. The smell of the freshly baked goods is amazing and I love most of their items. A must try !
Sunmerry is a great addition to the Mira mesa area. We love getting pastries and buns here for gatherings. The lines can get long, but it moves pretty fast. Sometimes there are so many people coming in, and since there isn't a lot of space, people will just cut you in line, so I do wish that there was a designated line to order/pay, and a different area to get the pastries/buns. Top favorites: -Hot dog bun (there are two kinds) -Croissant? filled with different creams
I can't get enough of their pastries and would easily say it's better than 85 degree. My favorite buns are for sure the green onion and pork floss bun. I also always get the strawrberry green tea with salted foam which pairs well with the pastries. Although the place is small and has no seating, there's seating outside and at least they still have a restroom. Their service was nothing out of the ordinary but this day they had brioche bread samples which I thought was a nice touch!
This bake shop deserves a great review! Been going there since they opened and I love their pastry. It's moist and the filling is incredible. My favorite are their Taro Mochi Bread and pork sung. We recently ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday and it was delicious. The price is reasonable, the place is clean, and the service is fast and efficient!
Good bakery. They offer a lot of sweet baked goods and desserts, so if you are into those types of baked goods, this place is for you. I, on the other hand, not so sweet. As a result, I picked up some wheat toast and coffee walnut concha. The wheat bread was a lot better than I thought. It was quite wholesome and tasted great. I used it for sandwiches, avocado toast, and grilled cheese. I would definitely make this purchase again when I visit. The coffee walnut concha was very good, too, and quite the treat. I loved the smattering of crushed walnuts, and the coffee flavor the concha offered was really good, especially the cream. Good stuff. The service was subdued but friendly. They offer a lot of good parking.
This location is smaller compared to their other one. I think they had a good array of pastries. I went in once with my cousin and they had lots of options for savory and sweet. And an hour later, we came in with my mom and a few shelves were empty of the pastries! They were loading it up again as we were looking through what was left. We ate and enjoyed the: - Dirty Bun - Coconut Raisin Twist - 2 Pork Sung Bun I also ordered the Nutella Bowl Bun, I think it's called. The Nutella was very minimal and a little burnt. While it looked big and light... it was actually empty..?? And dense and dry. The base of the bun stuck to the paper too. I wouldn't recommend this. Next time, I hope to try one of their savory breads or cake. The prices were really good!
